Valley Ranch was established in 1992 and sits on the east side of the Mohawk Valley. The community consists of 79 lots and 53 homes.

Valley Ranch was originally a part of the Graeagle Fire Protection District Firewise Community until 2023 when it became a separate Firewise community.

In 2019, Valley Ranch requested a Hazardous Fuel Assessment.  This assessment was completed by California Registered Professional Forester, Danielle Bradfield with input from the US Forest Service, Cal Fire, Graeagle Fire Protection District, Plumas County Office of Emergency Services, and Plumas County Fire Safe Council.  The intent of this Assessment was to provide an educational tool for the community going forward.  Specifically, this assessment was intended to provide a general strategy of fire preparedness for the subdivision, as well as prioritization of identified strategy components.  Valley Ranch Firewise continues to set and measure its achievements based on this original assessment and the ever-changing knowledge gained from experts in the field of fire behavior.
