Prescribed Fire

A prescribed fire is a planned and controlled application of fire to land to meet specific land management goals, such as reducing hazardous fuel buildup, improving wildlife habitat, controlling invasive species, and restoring fire-dependent ecosystems by releasing the stored nutrients in the pine needles, pine cones, etc. to provide nitrogen to the growing living trees.

These burns are carried out under carefully controlled conditions by trained professionals who create a burn plan and monitor weather, terrain, and fuel conditions to ensure the fire stays within the designated area and burns safely.

Prescribed Fire reduces the risk of catastrophic wildfires by clearing out excess fuels like dead wood and brush, prescribed fires prevent the buildup of material that could lead to more dangerous wildfires.
